Graduated in Electrical Engineering , in 1985, and "Doutor" Degree (i.e. PhD) in Electrical and Computer Engineering, in 1996,  by the Faculdade de Engenharia of the Universidade do Porto.

        Research Assistant at INESC (Computer and Systems Engineering Institute),  between 1985 and 1996, where he was involved with R&D Projects on the area of High Speed Communication Networks.

        Visitor at CERN, in 1987 and 2002, where he collaborated on the development of integrant modules of the Data Acquisition and Control Systems of the LEP (Large Electron Positron Collider) and LHC (Large Hadron Collider) Expriments.

        R&D Project Manager at ENT (National Telecommunications Enterprise), on the area of products and systems for the access networks, in 1997.

        Retired Assistant Professor after serving the Escola de Engenharia of the Universidade do Minho as a Lecturer, between 1990 and 1996, and as an Assistant Professor, between 1996 and 2011.
