Exhibition of IoT System Prototypes by students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications and Computer Engineering (LETI) at the University of Minho

29 de May de 2025

On May 29, 2025, from 10 am to 4 pm, in the Central Hall of Building 2 of the Azurém Campus, students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications and Computer Engineering (LETI) of the University of Minho will carry out a practical demonstration of the prototypes of IoT (Internet of Things) systems, developed in the Integrated Project in Telecommunications (PIT) course in the academic year 2024/2025 under the guidance of professors from three departments: José A. Afonso (DEI), Helena Rodrigues (DSI) and Bruno Ribeiro (DI).

IoT systems use networks of sensor devices connected to the Internet through wireless communication networks to acquire, transmit, analyze and control parameters of the local environment in real time, enabling more efficient and precise management of processes and thus contributing to environmental, economic and social sustainability.

The data collected by each IoT system is transmitted and stored in a central database, which supports a web service. This data can be viewed via a web application or mobile app, allowing users to make informed decisions based on real data. In addition, actuators and processing algorithms make it possible to automate various operations.

The projects developed by students this academic year are:

  1. NexCar – Smart sensors for cars.
  2. HealthSync – Monitoring of biomedical signals from patients.
  3. BabySense – Smart monitoring of babies’ well-being.
  4. Fire detection and prevention.
  5. IoT technologies for smart homes.
  6. Smart home automation system.
