Robotics Laboratory at the University of Minho won the RoboCup@Home league
From the 2nd to the 5th of May, another RoboCup Portuguese Open 2024 took place in Paredes de Coura. One of the leagues competing was the RoboCup@Home league where robots have to perform domestic tasks such as receptionist, carrying bags, serving breakfast, serving a table and ensuring some rules within the house.
The LAR@Home team from the Automation and Robotics Laboratory of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho (Guimarães) achieved a historic achievement by securing 1st place in this Test. It was with the robot CHARMIE (A Collaborative Healthcare and Home Service and Assistant Robot for Elderly Care), which recognizes vocal commands and responds through a friendly face, can move with four omnidirectional wheels, has an arm to pick up objects and always knows where is inside the house. This robot is being prepared to participate in the world championship, RoboCup 2024, which will take place this year in Eindhoven (Netherlands) from the 17th to the 21st of July.
A very special public thank you to all members of the LAR@Home team, all members of LAR (Automation and Robotics Laboratory) and the team’s sponsors, namely the companies JEF, DigitalSign, botnroll.com, Costa Guerreiro, Eurotux at incredible support they have given throughout this journey.
Without everyone’s support and generosity, this victory would not have been possible. Thank you for always being by our side and for being part of this incredible journey!
